For most chemical producers, 2009 was the most difficult in memory – if not history.  As a result of the economic slowdown, and the spreading global financial crisis, chemical companies faced a series of challenges throughout the year.  Early in 2009, demand for most chemical products fell to five-year lows, before output stabilized and a gradual recovery began.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the chemical industry is entering a new era as the pressure increases for all firms to make their greenhouse gas (GHG) emission data publicly available.  Only half of the 30 largest chemical firms publicly report their carbon dioxide (CO₂) emission data.  Priscilla McLeroy, Director and Managing Partner of ADL’s Energy & Chemicals Practice provides perspectives on this topic from public accountability to corporate transparency.
