Business Analyst Intern
Arthur D. Little offers internships in London for students approaching graduation as well as for recent graduates. Business Analyst Interns typically join Arthur D. Little for a 4-6 month period. During their internship, Business Analyst Interns are active members of project teams and often execute similar responsibilities as full time junior members of staff.
As an Intern at Arthur D. Little, you will:
- Use strong quantitative and analytical abilities to integrate and assess data
- Develop customised analysis tools
- Synthesize analytical results to provide action-oriented recommendations
- Work with clients and team members to develop and implement innovative solutions
- Take initiative in both client engagements and internal projects
- Communicate results and discuss issues with project teams and, on occasion, clients
- Gain immediate responsibility for project deliverables
The role requires a high-level of creative thinking and problem solving, combined with strong quantitative, interpersonal and team working skills. Occasional travel may be required.
Required Profile
Business Analyst Interns are outstanding students in their final year of studies, who are approaching graduation, or who have recently graduated from a leading school or university. Their academic records should demonstrate significant analytical or quantitative experience, typically from a numerate discipline (e.g. Mathematics, Science, Economics, Business, and Engineering).
Arthur D. Little is looking for highly analytical, credible and charismatic candidates with strong presentation skills and a professional demeanor. Ideal candidates will have previous relevant experience – either through an internship or otherwise – in an analytical/research role in which they will have successfully applied their knowledge and skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages, especially Excel, and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Fluency in English is required; additional language skills are desirable.
The candidate should be a highly motivated self starter and a strong team player.

Safety Risk Intern

Safety Risk Interns typically join us for four to six months and are active members of project teams and often execute similar responsibilities as full time junior members of staff. Working with a range of our staff, from bright graduates to our Directors and other senior managers, you would provide strong analytical capabilities working within teams to deliver work of exceptional quality for our clients.
Type of work undertaken by group
Arthur D. Little’s successful and growing Risk Practice provides strategic safety and risk management consulting to a wide variety of multinational clients in the transport, energy, process and utilities sectors. We combine deep industry knowledge, functional experience and technology skills to help clients deliver complex and demanding products and projects. Our work is never run-of-the-mill. We pride ourselves with being chosen by our clients to work on their most challenging problems from assessing complex areas of risk, building risk models, assisting with decision-making, through to developing and implementing safety change programmes including cultural aspects. We regularly work at the most senior levels within our client organisations and have a real impact on their business.
Specific responsibilities
Given the range of work undertaken by Arthur D. Little’s Risk Practice, you will need to be adaptable to fill a variety of roles on different projects. For example, you will be expected to:
- Work in small teams, usually on multiple projects running in parallel.
- Produce high quality, robust, numerical analyses (often using Excel).
- Support client facing activities such as interviews and workshops.
- Carry out research activities.
- Support the production of written deliverables of exceptional quality.
- Work in our office in Cambridge and occasionally at client sites (in the UK and overseas).
- Support wider aspects of our business, including business development and client management activities, as well as project delivery.
Minimum requirements
- Excellent academic background in engineering - you will be approaching graduation or will have recently graduated.

Systems Assurance Consultant

Working with a range of our staff, from bright graduates to our Directors and other senior experts, you would provide strong analytical capabilities working within teams to deliver work of exceptional quality for our clients.
Type of work undertaken by group
Arthur D. Little provides safety assurance support to international developers and users of safety critical systems, predominantly in the transport sector. This is a part of the successful and growing Risk Practice, which provides strategic safety and risk management consulting to a wide variety of multinational clients in the transport, energy, process and utilities sectors. We combine industry knowledge, functional experience and technology skills to help clients deliver complex and demanding products and projects.
Specific responsibilities
The role will involve supporting our systems assurance assignments, including independent safety assessment, as well as contributing to the wider range of projects undertaken by the Risk Practice. You will work in small teams on multiple projects, both at client sites and in our offices, so will need to be able to pick up information rapidly and support client facing discussions on a regular basis.
You would be expected to participate in all aspects of our business, including business development and client management activities, as well as project delivery. The position is based in Cambridge but you will travel both in the UK and abroad, to support our worldwide clients.
Minimum requirements
- Excellent academic background in engineering or science.
- Three to ten years’ proven track record in the systems assurance domain.
- Good background in safety, hazard and risk assessment methodologies.
- Good communications and report-writing skills.
One or more of the following would also be beneficial:
- Experience of assurance and/or development of safety-critical systems.
- Knowledge of railway and/or other safety-critical control systems.
- Assessment and/or development of software-based systems.
- Independent safety assessment.

To join us as a Senior Hire you will require more than three years of relevant work experience as well as meeting the graduate entry-level requirements.
As a Senior Hire you will usually apply your skills as a Consultant although the precise career level at which you join is decided during the interviews, according to experience and background.
